More than 20,000 years ago, at the peak of the last Ice Age, when our ancestors are supposed to have been only primitive hunter-gatherers, the mysterious 100-meter tall pyramid known to the world today as Gunung Padang, was constructed in a mountainous region of Java, Indonesia, by the architects and engineers of a lost civilization. Preliminary surveys, not yet followed up by excavations, have revealed hidden chambers deep within the structure and evidence of high technology.

Disturbing new evidence, not yet widely known or understood by the general public, has recently been published in leading scientific journals confirming that multiple fragments of a disintegrating giant comet struck the earth in a series of devastating episodes between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago. The impacts set in motion a mysterious cataclysmic interval (known to geologists as the Younger Dryas and lasting for 1,200 years) that caused worldwide extinctions of animal species and changed the face of the Earth forever, raising global sea level by more than 120 meters and flooding the vast continent-sized landmass, known to geologists as the Sunda Shelf, of which Indonesia is now the largest remnant.
Established theories about the emergence of civilization cite the invention of agriculture and monumental architecture some 11,600 years ago—immediately after the Younger Dryas flood cataclysm. But in this controversial presentation Graham Hancock argues that archaeologists, by not taking account of the cataclysm in their timeline and model of the origins of civilization, have gravely misinterpreted history.
What the record attests to is not the sudden invention of technology, but a transfer of technology to hunter-gatherers from the survivors of a more advanced "lost" civilization -- the very same lost civilization that created the Gunung Padang Pyramid more than 20,000 years ago and undoubtedly many other structures on the lands swallowed by the flood. In the teeth of opposition from orthodox historians, and an ideologically driven consensus, a new paradigm of prehistory is emerging that will change everything we have been taught to believe about the origins of civilization -- and about ourselves.
